Theses

If a student wants to write a thesis at the Junior Professorship Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE), a distinction is made between two cases: The student has an own topic proposal for the thesis or the student is interested in a topic advertised by BISE. If the student has an own topic proposal, an exposé on the topic should be prepared and submitted with the application (please read through "Information Exposé"). The student applies to BISE (please read "Information Application"). BISE checks whether the application fits the topic of the junior professorship. If the application does not fit, it will be rejected; if the application does fit, the student will be invited to a preliminary interview. If the student wants to write about a topic advertised by BISE, the student prepares the exposé after the interview (please read through "Information Exposé"). For both cases, BISE will check if exposé fulfills the expectations. The student then revises the exposé until BISE agrees with the content. When the revision of the exposé is completed, BISE finally agrees to supervise the thesis and registers the thesis.
Application Process for the Thesis
The exposé describes your possible research project. In the exposé, you should explain the relevance of your possible topic, give a short overview of the current state of research, formulate your research questions and outline ideas for the methodological approach. Please refer to relevant, current literature for the preparation of your exposé. Students can write their exposé and thesis either in English or in German. For the structure of the exposé please use the "Template for the Preparation of the Thesis". The exposé is to be structured as follows:  - Introduction  - Foundations  - Related Work  - Research Method  - Project Plan (via Gantt Chart) Exposé Bachelor WiWi: The exposé comprises 12 pages excluding bibliography. The exposé is graded during the project seminar (module 11) and the results of the exposé need to be presented. Exposé all other Students: The exposé comprises 10 pages excluding the bibliography. The exposé is not graded and no presentation is required. In all other respects, the prerequisites and requirements (e.g. minimum number of ECTS) of the examination regulations applicable to you for the registration and preparation of a thesis apply.
Information Exposé
All documents will be sent summarized as one PDF via the Unimail address to the junior professorship. Applications from other addresses cannot be considered. For a topic advertised by BISE, please send the application to the supervisor named in the advertisement. If you have an own topic proposal for a thesis, please send the application to JProf. Mario Nadj. Required documents from all students:  - Curriculum Vitae  - Current Transcript of Records (current Studies)  - Job References, if applicable  - Bachelor's Degree Certificate (only for Master's Students) In the application, a motivation / connection to the chosen topic should be recognizable. In case of own topic proposal for the thesis: The exposé is submitted with the application.
Information Application
Procedure of the presentation for the project seminar: - Presentation (10 min) - Discussion (20 min) The presentation and discussion can be held in either German or English. In the presentation you should present the contents of your project seminar: - Motivation/importance of the research project (1 slide) - 360 degree overview of the existing scientific literature (1 slide) - Derivation of the research gap(s) & question(s) (1 slide) - Presentation of the research method (1-2 slides) - Appendix (if necessary)

Affidavit for Written Work

For written work (e.g. Bachelor thesis, Master thesis, seminars or project seminars), the submission of an affidavit is mandatory. The affidavit must be signed (handwritten signature; no digital signature) and submitted together with any work relevant to grading and/or examinations (to be attached at the end of the work). Further information can be found here .

A declaration of independence must also be submitted for written work (e.g. Bachelor thesis, Master thesis, seminars, or project seminars) in which the use of IT/AI is addressed. A template can be found under "Template Declaration of Independence".

Submission of the Thesis

The thesis is submitted digitally.  Information regarding the digital thesis can be found under "Checklist Digital Final Thesis".

To submit the PDF file of the thesis, please use ExaBase. You can find the link to ExaBase here.

Please upload the thesis appendix to Sciebo before the submission deadline and note the link to the Sciebo folder in your thesis. You can find the link to Sciebo here.

Important: The affidavit and the declaration of independence must be filled out, signed by hand (no digital signature) and attached at the end of your thesis.

Presentation of the Thesis

After submitting the thesis, students have to present their thesis. For this please use the "Template for the Preparation of the Presentation" of the TU Dortmund University. You can find the template here (german version / english version).

The scope includes 15 minutes for the presentation of the thesis followed by 15 minutes of discussion.
