Find the Right Way. A Framework for the Implementation of Responsible Artificial Intelligence in Companies
Type: Master Thesis
Date: starting immediately
Problem Statement
Whether in manufacturing or autonomous driving, the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) are manifold. However, the use of AI can also lead to unexpected negative consequences that can cause significant damage not only to the reputation and profitability of companies, but also to their employees, customers and society as a whole. Prominent examples include algorithmic bias or lack of transparency in AI-based business decisions. Companies must therefore also consider ethical aspects when using AI. Although corporate interest in responsible AI (RAI) has increased in recent years, there is neither a common understanding of the principles that RAI should promote, nor has a framework been developed that describes how companies can implement RAI. To this end, this master thesis will conduct a systematic literature review to provide an overview of the current state of the solutions discussed in academic discourse. Furthermore, expert interviews with companies will be conducted to describe how companies deal with this topic. On this basis, this master thesis aims to develop a framework that demonstrates (1) what companies need to consider when implementing RAI and (2) how companies can implement these considerations.
Goals of the Thesis
- Conduct a systematic literature review on implementation approaches of RAI in companies
- Develop a semi-structured interview guide and find 10 experts to conduct the interviews
- Record, transcribe, and analyze the expert interviews using MAXQDA
- Develop a framework that demonstrates (1) what companies need to consider when implementing RAI and (2) how companies can implement these considerations
Requirements
- Interest in RAI
- Experience in qualitative research
- The thesis and exposé can be written in either English or German
